Punta Gorda Hosted National Volleyball Championship Over The Weekend

Volleyball is a sport that is enjoyed all over the South. This weekend Punta Gorda was given the opportunity to host the District National Volleyball Championship Tournament, where all districts were given the chance to showcase their skills and experience on the Court. On Saturday, January 26th our very own, Punta Gorda faced all teams that were in group A in a single Round Robin. These teams included male and females. Punta Gorda was able to dominate their way to the semifinals, losing one set against the Corozal Massive. And then advanced to the finals where they faced SE Jaguars once again. It was a long and emotional fight between the two teams as they went, point for point in the first set. The Punta Gorda team (T-Rebels) was able to capitalize on the first set, 23-25, and fell short in the other two sets 25-17 and 15-11 resulting in the favor of SE Jaguars. Second place was awarded to Alwin Mahung and the Punta Gorda T-rebels, and 3rd place was awarded to SQ Dragons from group B. We would like to congratulate all teams and players on their valiant effort in the weekend tournament and we hope that next year our home town can pull together a winning strategy and bring home a gold medal.
