Maya Mountain Cacao has been around for more than a decade. It was a company where farmers would sell their cacao beans and receive payment. It is now official that those farmers are the owners of the newly formed Maya Mountain Cacao Cooperative. The Maya Mountain Cacao company has been dissolved, and on Saturday August 22nd, the cooperative held its first Annual General Meeting, officially establishing the Maya Mountain Cacao Cooperative Limited. The celebrations and Annual General Meeting took place at Julian Cho High School, where many farmers were present. The presence of the government was also evident at the ceremony, with Minister of Agriculture, the Honorable Rodwell Ferguson, and the Area Representative for Toledo West, the Honorable Oscar Requena, in attendance. The chair of the newly formed cooperative is Simeon Cal from Na Lum Ca Village.
