The Ministry of Health & Wellness has confirmed two (2) positive measles cases in Belize. Since then, the Ministry has been working to contain and prevent the spread of this virus. The last time Belize had a case in 1991. The infected individuals remain in isolation, and the Ministry is closely monitoring them. Globally, measles continues to rise, with 10.3 million reported in 2023. Unvaccinated travelers risk contracting and spreading measles. in response, the ministry has increased surveillance and access to the measle vaccine, commonly known as MMR, administered in two doses to children. Measles symptom include fever, runny nose, red eyes, and a rash starting at the at the hairline and spreading across the body. Vaccination is the best prevention. Parents should ensure children receive both vaccine doses. Anyone unvaccinated regardless of age, should visit a health facilities for Vaccination. the Ministry urges the public to report any fever symptoms of health Facilities promptly.
