Sunday morning brought relief to the residents of the Toledo District. Many feared Toledo would lose air connectivity after Tropic Air announced it would discontinue flights to Punta Gorda on October 31st. Residents rallied, asking the government to find a solution, stressing that air travel is critical not just for tourism, but also for medical emergencies. Government officials initially engaged Tropic Air to discuss options. While Tropic submitted several recommendations, company representatives say the government never followed up. Instead, the government negotiated directly with Maya Island Air. Today we are happy to report that those efforts paid off as Maya Island Air is officially reconnecting Toledo with the rest of the country.
