The People’s National Party is speaking out against any proposal that would see Belize giving
up Cuban medical professionals in exchange for visa considerations. In a press release, the
party described such a move as a national disgrace and emphasized the important role Cuban
doctors continue to play within Belize’s healthcare system, particularly in rural and underserved
communities. The PNP noted that Cuban medical personnel have helped save countless lives
and continue to fill critical gaps in the country’s medical infrastructure. The party argued that
trading essential healthcare services for visa access would send a dangerous message that
travel opportunities are being placed above the wellbeing of Belizean citizens.
