On Friday night at Garbutt’s Marine, the Belize Tourism Industry Association held its annual Christmas party. The event brought together tourism stakeholders and featured two guest speakers: Hon. Dr. Osmond Martinez and Mr. Javier Guttierrez. Mr. Guttierrez opened the program with a presentation highlighting ongoing developments. However, during his remarks, he announced that rooms would soon be constructed at the marina to accommodate some of the visitors coming into the area. That announcement did not sit well with several BTIA members in attendance. According to some, this was the first time they were hearing about such a project, and they felt that more consultation should have taken place before any public disclosure.
