Jeremy Enriquez has filed a constitutional claim against the Government of Belize over its failure to appoint a new Ombudsman following the vacancy of the office in late 2025. He argues that the prolonged vacancy denies Belizeans access to an independent constitutional office responsible for investigating complaints against public authorities and reviewing Freedom of Information disputes. Enriquez is asking the court to order the government to appoint an Ombudsman without further delay, saying the vacancy undermines accountability, access to justice, and the rule of law.
