Government Allocates Two Hundred And Fifty Thousand Dollars To Fight Sargassum—But Not A Single Dollar For The Toledo District

Sargassum is a type of Seaweed that is found floating in the ocean. Recently, the amount
of sargassum that has floated onto the shores of Belize has increased tenfold. It is now a
nuisance to the coastal communities and the tourism industry. Last week, the Belize fund
for a sustainable future allocated $250,000 to the Belize tourism industry association and
the Belize hotel association. in a release. It said that the funds will go to coastal
communities to fight Sargassum that has ended up on the coastline. When this happens, it
begins to deteriorate and becomes a bad experience for the community and a tourism
industry as a result the money allocated, Will be used to clean up the sargassum. What is
very disappointing is the fact that not a single coastal community in the Toledo District was
considered for money to fight the sargassum that has washed up on the shores of the
Toledo District.
