Last week, we reported on allegations of extortion involving a fisheries officer in the Sapodilla Range. Since then, PGTV has obtained additional information indicating that at least one of the Guatemalan fishermen involved was the holder of a valid Belize fishing license. The fishermen allege that they were extorted for substantial sums of money by the fisheries officer. At this time, we can confirm that the Fisheries Administrator has acknowledged the existence of the complaint and stated that the matter is currently under investigation.
