Dengue cases are on the rise in Toledo District.

Dengue is a viral infection caused by the Dengue virus (DENV), transmitted to humans through the bite of infected mosquitoes. About half of the world’s population is now at risk of Dengue with an estimated 100–400 million infections occurring each year.  In Toledo, the Vector Control Department has been doing community outreach to educate people about Dengue, however, it has reach to the point where community support is needed to mitigate Dengue. Over the last few weeks, dDngue cases have seen an increase and the Health Department and Vector Control Department in Punta Gorda are concern of the impact. Yesterday, the Vector Control Department organize a clean-up campaign in the Indianville area where the Dengue cases have seen an increase.  Next week Wednesday, representative from the Vector Control Department will be appearing on Talk Ah D Town Show to talk about Dengue and ways to combat the increasing number of cases in the Toledo District..
