Battle Of The Drums 2024

The November celebrations came to a spectacular close this past weekend with a vibrant event at the Punta Gorda Sporting Complex. On Saturday, November 30th, the venue buzzed with excitement as it hosted the highly anticipated Battle of the Drums Competition & Show alongside the Garifuna Music Festival.

The evening featured several talented Garifuna drumming groups, including participants from Guatemala and Honduras. History was made when the Guatemalan group introduced their female drummer—the first woman ever to compete in this cultural celebration. Her remarkable performance captivated the audience, earning widespread admiration.

In a heartwarming gesture, Teacher Olive Woodye made a donation to the trailblazing female drummer, inspiring many others in the crowd to contribute as well.

As the event came to a close, the winners were announced, Independence Junior College First Place, Hawani Wayunagu Dangriga Group Second Place and Third Place went to Georgetown Ibayani Group.
