Due to the substantial rainfall, it receives, Punta Gorda town stands out as one of the lushest areas in Belize. However, the current dry season poses a significant risk of bushfires. Just last week, a portion of the town ignited, highlighting the urgent need for upgraded firefighting resources. The Fire Department personnel were on standby, but their equipment that has served for over three decades, is outdated. Both hoses and trucks are in dire need of replacement. The residents of Punta Gorda are calling upon the government to invest in modernizing the town’s fire department, which currently lacks even a proper facility of its own.
