Over the past month, the Belize Territorial Volunteers, in collaboration with Toledo Exposure/PGTV, hosted a successful series of turtle monitoring camps at the Sapodilla Cayes. Located within a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the area provided an incredible learning experience for the young participants, who had the opportunity to witness nature up close.
During their time at the Cayes, the children observed newly hatched turtles and even watched as some turtles prepared to lay their eggs. These activities were supervised by BTV scientists, who also took time to educate the kids on the dos and don’ts of interacting with turtles. The campers not only gained valuable knowledge about marine conservation but also learned how to snorkel and explored the vibrant underwater environment.
