Sunday October 26th, The second round of consultations on Belize’s Marine Spatial Planning was held at the Toledo Community College. The session brought together representatives from the Fisheries Department, the Coastal Zone Management Authority, fishers, and community members from Punta Gorda and surrounding areas. The first consultation focused on gathering information and feedback from fishers. This second meeting continued those discussions, focusing on how best to balance sustainable use and protection of marine resources. One of the goals of the plan is to ensure that 20% of Belize’s reef system is designated as protected areas.
