A major legal decision from the Caribbean Court of Justice is being described as a victory for justice and fair elections in Belize. Belizean activist Jeremy Enriquez, along with Senior Counsel Anand Ramlogan, successfully overturned a previous ruling, allowing their constitutional case to move forward before the Belize Court of Appeal. The case challenges the current electoral boundaries in Belize, arguing that they have not been updated in nearly 25 years despite significant population growth. Enriquez claims this has created inequalities in voting power and violates the constitutional principle of equal representation. In a unanimous decision delivered on March 23, the CCJ reversed an earlier Court of Appeal ruling that had struck out the appeals on technical grounds.
