The sugar cane season has recently opened following a challenging year for the industry in northern Belize, where disease significantly affected crop yields. In response to these setbacks, the government provided assistance to cane farmers in the north, and the industry now appears to be gradually recovering. However, a major concern for consumers is the recent increase in the prices of both brown and white sugar.
