Insights Into The Underwater Maya Civilization

BTIA Toledo chapter is extending an invitation to the public to join archaeologists at the Cho’oc Ayin site within Paynes Creek National Park. This event offers a unique opportunity to discover ancient Maya wooden buildings, including a residence and a salt workshop, which catered to the Maya’s need for salt. These remarkable structures have been preserved in mangrove peat under the sea floor, along with intriguing artifacts. Esteemed speakers, Dr. Mckillop from LSU and dr. sills from UT Tyler, will be presenting their findings and offering insights into the underwater Maya Civilization. Attendess will have the chance to meet the archaeologist and view an exhibit showcasing these fascinating discoveries. the event scheduled for Tuesday ,at April 15,2025,at 10am. and will be held at the BTIA Tourism Center on Front street, Punta Gorda. Naks will be provided. Don’t miss this exciting opportunity to delve into the rich history of the ancient Maya.
