On Sunday the Belize Territorial Volunteers BTV, went down to the Sarstoon to commemorate Belize’s 40th birthday. BTV have been doing this for more than ten years now and almost every year they encounter the Guatemalan Military who insist on claiming the entire Sarstoon River. The BTV did not let the Guatemalan armed forces intimidate them and continued with their mission; which was to put a flag on the Sarstoon Island. However, the BTV via a Press Release is now appealing to the government of Belize to send a strong message to the UN and friends of Belize protesting Guatemala’s incursions into Belize territorial waters.
