Sargassum Continues to Affect the Coastline

Considered the single greatest threat to the Caribbean, the influx of Sargassum continues to accumulate along the coastline of our country. At one point this event was only seen once a year but due to climate change, we are beginning to see an increase in occurrence and volume. The thick blanket of this sea plant is not only a nuisance, but it also brings with it a lot of plastics and other trash and has detrimental effects to marine life. The Toledo Institute for Development and Environment TIDE will be organizing a beach clean-up campaign on Friday, July 27th to quickly remove the Sargassum.
