Minister of National Security Visits Barranco

For months we have consistently talked about the horrible state of the pier in the southern coastal village of Barranco.  You are probably wondering, why is the pier in such a small remote village is so important? To put it simply, that pier used by both the Belize Defence Force and Coast Guard on an almost daily basis, for them to dock between routine maritime patrols and for the loading of goods. For over a year the pier has remained in a dilapidated condition, and the constant complaints by village residents, the Belize Territorial Volunteers and PGTV have seemed to fall on deaf ears.

Well, on Saturday, July 14th, 2018, the Minister of national security the Hon. John Saldivar visited the village and got a first-hand view of the dysfunctional pier. Whether or not his visit to the village will bring development is yet to be determined. It was clear from his Facebook post that his visit was not a matter of National Security but it should be hard to ignore such an obvious necessity. With the ongoing tension between Belize and Guatemala in Belizean waters this pier is huge help and advantage to our National Security.
