Tuesday, November 7, 2017. The National Garifuna Council held two prominent activities over the weekend as part of the festivities leading up to Garifuna Settlement Day.
On Saturday morning, the St. Martin de Porres Church was the venue for the national solidarity mass.
Then on Saturday night the Bird’s Aisle was the venue for the Miss Garifuna Belize Pageant.
Representative from Dangriga Daynah Marin bested her peers to claim the 2017-2018 title.
First runner up is Miss Garifuna Hopkins Aaliyah Augustine; second runner up is Miss Garifuna Belize City Ruth Nunez.
Fourth place prize was claimed by Miss Garifuna Georgetown Anita Augustine.
Activities continue in Punta Gorda this week and included nightly drumming.
Tonight the drummers will be at the Valerio Bus Stop by Claver Church.
Tomorrow the drumming will take place bu Lovers Lane and on Thursday it will be s Dr. Lopez’ residence.
Friday there will be the eleventh annual Primary School Garifuna Translation Contest which will beheld at the Fr. Ring Parish Hall.
The theme for this year’s Garifuna Settlement Day activities is: Progress lies in unity … always remember.
