The internal village council strife came to a head at the end of last week when a meeting was called to try and work out problems.
For context, PGTV understands that the turmoil is over a decision that was reportedly given to two churches to extract timber from village.
The Chairman was apparently not aware that one of his Councillors has given that permission, and when Juan Caal went to investigate, found some discrepancies.
He took action, and with the help of the Alcalde, an attempt was made to confiscate the illegally harvested lumber.
That was when things really heated up. PGTV spoke by telephone with Chairman Juan Caal who is out district working in Placencia He explained what transpired and concluded that given the current state of affairs and because he feels disrespected by his own people, he can no longer in good conscience continue as chairman of San Marcos village.
PGTV has tried unsuccessfully to reach other members of the San Marcos village council to talk about the situation.
We will continue to follow this story.
