BDF Volunteers Battle Camp was a success

Friday, August 4, 2017. The annual battle camp for the volunteers of the Belize Defence Force ended last weekend in the Cayo district.

Three hundred and fifty volunteer soldiers took part in two weeks of training designed to improve their knowledge on the theories and practice of leadership, discipline, personnel management and military tactics, among others.

The soldiers also carried out community service projects at the St. Barnabas Anglican School in Central Farm and at St. Francis Xavier R.C. School in Esperanza.

Of note is that the winner of the Drill Competition is the Delta Company, comprising volunteer soldiers from the Toledo and Stann Creek districts.

The overall champion title was claimed by Support Company, which is made up of volunteer soldiers from Cayo, including Belmopan.

At the closing ceremony for the camp, an honor guard was inspected by the Mayor of San Ignacio Earl Trapp.

At the start of the camp, Captain Paul Mahung was publicly cited for his return to military service, having retired from the BDF volunteer battalion in 2010.

Captain Paul Mahung re-enlisted last December and now serves as public relations officer in the BDF Technical Reserves.
