Punta Gorda, TOLEDO. Friday, January 20, 2017. The new class of Alcaldes was sworn in today in Punta Gorda town.
During ceremonies which were held at the Father Francis Ring Parish Hall, over six dozen new Alcalde’s were officially administered the Oath of Office by Justice of the Supreme Court Antionette Moore.
The Alcaldes representing over three dozen Maya communities in the Toledo district were elected in elections held in the respective villages and communities.
They term of office is for two years. PGTV was at the swearing in and here are the highlights.
This morning’s swearing in ceremony for the new Alcaldes also saw the election of a new 7-member executive for the Toledo Alcaldes Association, TAA.
From the group of 75 Alcaldes, Santiago Quib from San Benito Poite emerged as the new TAA president, having gotten the majority support from member of his peers.
